I was turned onto Elite Force’s music a little while back when his remix of the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s Maps was sent my way. I got my hands on his newly released, fully mixed and mastered album Re:Vamped and I’m sharing it with you all for FREE. In my opinion, the album reminds me of Prodigy. So if you dig Prodigy, you’ll dig this.

DOWNLOAD Re:Vamped

“I decided to embark on a whole new extension of the re-edit idea looking at creating a number of brand new tracks out of components taken from older tunes… proper mash-ups. Some were born out of simple live jams that evolved into finely tuned studio creations, whilst others were ground-up rebuilds where I was effectively writing new pieces of music using samples from other tracks. There was no fixed way of working and no sacred cows that went un-plundered.” [Elite Force]

“Thanks to Elite Force, we have entered a whole new paradigm in mashupology … he has created a collection of numbers that sound like original compositions, such are the intricacies of his tailoring.” [iDJ Magazine]

“The originator of the anti-genre DJ-style ‘tech-funk’ takes the realms of cross-genre production to another effortless high with Re:Vamped. In a nutshell, this kicks. 5/5” [Mixmag Reviews]

“From dubstep to tech-funk, this electrifying bunch of ace mash-ups mixed into a coherent, genre-traversing blend is a must-have” [DJ Magazine (album reviews)]

Doppelgänger pickup lines? Who is my celebrity doppelgänger?

A few days ago I was at a club for a charity event and quietly sitting (I showed up too late to the event, missed the open bar and was pouting about it) when this “gentleman” approached me. I had noticed him looking at me but he appeared gay so I assumed he was admiring my outfit- black leather leggings, black leather shooties (the love child of a shoe and a boot) with silver studs and my fox fur trimmed Marc Jacobs coat. Anyways, when he came up to me, instead of asking my name he said “what celebrity to people tell you that you look like?”. I assumed he thought I looked a lot like a celebrity but when I asked him who he thought I look liked he had no idea. Apparently, this was his pickup line. I realize that this whole doppelgänger craze swept the interwebz a few weeks back and I won’t lie to you, I did kind of enjoy the fact that suddenly all my facebook friend’s pictures were replaced with more attractive celebrity look-a-likes. But has this doppelgänger craze gone as far as becoming a pickup line? Since this “gentleman” had no clue what celebrity I looked like, I thought I’d turn to the website Find My Doppelganger and find out who my celebrity look-a-like is.

I first tried my WRG? profile picture but they wouldn’t accept it. =( So I decided to use my current Twitter picture. The result I got is this-

69% I look like Guy Pearce… What? #1. I look like a dude? Great. #2. I don’t know even who Guy Pearce is. I only look 65% like David Beckham. If I’m going to look like a guy I’d much more prefer to look like David Beckham over Guy Pearce.

So I thought ok, maybe I should try another picture. So I decided to use this picture I love of myself where I’m dressed like a cat (if you know me, you know I have a weird obsession with cats). The result I got is this-

MATTHEW PERRY?! WTF…. No comment here.

At this point, I’ve come to accept the fact that I look like a man. Instead of trying a picture where I’m all girly and “pretty”, I decided not to fight it and use this picture of me with a mustache . The result I got is this-

Wait a second…. now that I have a mustache I finally look like a woman?

Up late at night, the always lovely Jenn Rapp put me on to this as we traded links at the wee hours. There are plenty of comments good and bad on youtube about the video. I’ve been a fan of Gil Scott-Heron since Steven Vogel got me hooked. The art direction is lovely, very strong. Watch the video, but then tell me this (via comments) does the video do the song justice or not?

Smirnoff teamed up with nightlife giant DHM, to bring a different type of excitement to the city of Vancouver. The venue was unique & the party was wild. Whoever’s idea it was to throw a house party inside of a train station (Rocky Mountaineer station) is a genius!

Along with the free drinks and clever take home swag, the venue provided guests with a Jacuzzi ball pool pit, faux living room, skateboard ramp and headlining acts such as The Clipse, The Crystal Method, this was among the best house parties Vancouver has ever witnessed.

With a sold out, 1,200 person party, this event left all who attended with a night of great music & entertainment, a wicked hangover and a pair of slippers reminding them “I was there.”

Set to launch their inaugural collection this June, the Herschel name dates backs nearly a century when the Cormack family immigrated to Herschel, Canada (a 2 hour drive from Saskatoon) and entered the manufacturing business. Close to one hundred years later the lineage of the Cormack family has moved westward to Vancouver and changed focus from producing barrels to producing bags and backpacks.
